No Matter How You Travel, Stop at the Archway

With the recent boom in RV travel, one of the most frequently asked questions we get at the Archway in Kearney, Nebraska, concerns maneuvering and parking RVs in our lot.

We are happy to point out that the Archway’s parking lot was designed with plenty of pull-through parking spaces to accommodate large vehicles; RVs, trailers, semis, and tour buses.  And, our convenient location on the marginal road just off I-80 Exit 275 makes reaching our parking lot a “piece of cake.”

Visitors driving semis, RVs, and campers can stop and enjoy an afternoon at the Archway all year-round.  Take all the time you wish to see our historical exhibit, have a picnic on the campus, stroll or bike on over 10 miles of paved hike/bike trail.  You can even fish or take your kayak out on the Archway pond.

For those who wish to stay in the area overnight, we suggest two nearby locations that we’re sure you’ll enjoy.  The first is the Kearney RV Park and Campground.  Kearney RV Park and Campground is located about a mile and a half west on the same marginal road as the Archway.  What could be easier than that?  They offer 100-foot pull-through lots with paved pads. If you are overnighting, there’s no need to unhook a trailer or vehicle. Every site has access to water, sewer, and electrical utilities.  Laundry and shower facilities are available.  They also provide access to a pond for fishing.  To learn more about Kearney RV Park and Campground, click this link: https://kearneyrv.com/

Another popular, nearby spot is the Fort Kearny State Recreation Area.  From 1848 through 1871, Fort Kearny was the gateway to the Great Platte River Road, the first leg of the Oregon Trail.  The fabled location is now a state park.

Fort Kearny is located just 15 minutes southeast of the Archway and sits on 186 acres of land dotted with sandpit lakes.  It offers electrical and primitive camp pads, showers, a dump station, modern restrooms, and a wheelchair-accessible fishing pier.  Long-term visitors to Fort Kearny will enjoy fishing opportunities, a swimming beach, nature trails, and, of course, the historical exhibits at Fort Kearny State Historical Park. While you’re in Kearney, be sure to share in the experience of the original “adventure travelers.”  At the Archway, you’ll walk with pioneers on the Oregon Trail, see a 49er’s camp during the California Gold Rush, visit a Pony Express station, and much, much more.  As you travel on I-80 through Central Nebraska, you are following in the footsteps of the pioneers, adventurers, and innovators who helped to build America.
