The Orphan Train Colloquium
The Archway is excited to partner with the University of Nebraska Kearney to present The Orphan Train Colloquium, a platform designed to study and discuss the impact of the movement known as “The Orphan Train.” The orphan train movement was a supervised welfare program that operated from 1854 to 1929 and relocated abandoned, orphaned or homeless children from urban centers in the eastern U.S. to foster and adoptive families in the Midwest and Great Plains region. Nearly 3,500 of the children who participated in the program settled with families in Nebraska. Colloquium events will take place at the University of Nebraska Kearney, the Museum of Nebraska Art and at the Archway. For a complete schedule, visit http://unk.edu/orphantrain.
