Featured Performer: Chris Sayre – A Musial Journey Across America: Songs That Helped Shape a Nation – From the engaging sea shanties of the Eastern Seaboard to the haunting songs of the Appalachian Mountains, from the blues of Mississippi to the pioneer songs of the America West, Chris Sayre brings to life the rich and varied music of the United States.  Performing on guitar, mandolin, banjo, concertina, lap dulcimer and musical saw, Chris leaves his audiences with a deeper understanding of our musical heritage and how we got to where we are today.  The performance is free and open to the public and is presented with the support of Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

Following the performance, join us for ice cream sodas served from the Archway’s vintage soda fountain. Donations welcome.

August 21, 2017 – 11:30 am – 2:30 pm – Total Solar Eclipse Viewing

View the total solar eclipse at the Archway.  If you’re on the road during the total solar eclipse on August 21, the Archway’s location along I-80 offers a convenient spot for solar eclipse viewing.  Park Place Catering’s Food Truck will be on hand with lunch specials and we have eclipse viewing glasses available in the Archway Shop.  A partial eclipse will begin at 11:30.  The total eclipse will occur at 12:57.  And the partial eclipse will continue until about 2:30.

August 25 – 5:30pm – Historic Anniversary at the Archway

Join 1848 Venture Crew Civil War reenactors in observing the 107th anniversary of the Fort Kearney National Park Association re-union, during which association officials marked the south channel of the Platte River near Fort Kearny so that everyone would remember the history of the place where the trails westward crossed the river.  The contours of the river have changed and the marker was moved from its original site.  But you can still see the trail marker on display, today, at the Archway.

Featured Performer: Bill Behmer – Traditional Folk Music – This wide ranging survey of Anglo-American folk music includes British Isles ballads that are 500 years old along with the American folk songs they helped to inspire.  Hear these traditional tunes played on a variety of heritage instruments including the mountain dulcimer, fiddle and autoharp.  The performance is free and open to the public and is presented with the support of Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

Following the performance, join us for ice cream sodas served from the Archway’s vintage soda fountain. Donations welcome.
