John Liilyman: Platte River Study – Meet Kearney watercolor artist John Lillyman, who will be exhibiting his work in the Archway’s lobby gallery space beginning on November 12.   Mr. Lillyman, who is a native of Australia, moved to Kearney about 13 years ago.  He will talk about his fascination with painting Nebraska landscapes and the Platte River in particular.   It’s a scene that forces him, as an artist, to be spontaneous with watercolor.  The results are always surprising and fresh.  Mr. Lillyman’s talk will be followed by our November Soda Fountain Sundae concert.

Featured Performer: Bill Behmer – Traditional Folk Music – This wide ranging survey of Anglo-American folk music includes British Isles ballads that are 500 years old along with the American folk songs they helped to inspire.  Hear these traditional tunes played on a variety of heritage instruments including the mountain dulcimer, fiddle and autoharp.  The performance is free and open to the public and is presented with the support of Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.

Following the performance, join us for ice cream sodas served from the Archway’s vintage soda fountain. Donations welcome.

Ring in Christmas at The Archway – Join us for a festive celebration to ring in the holiday season at the Archway.  Enjoy music from a hand bell choir and a silent auction.  Join in our annual Christmas tree lighting and caroling.  Share in the holiday cheer with an hors d’oeuvres buffet and a cash bar.  Proceeds from this event support the Archway’s mission to educate and inspire visitors from all over the country by sharing the story of Nebraska’s role in the building of America.  Tickets are $50/each and can be reserved in advance by calling Mark Foradori at (308) 237-1000, or purchased at the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce office.

Annual Tri-City Food Fight – Stop by the Archway anytime during our regular hours, Mon – Sat 9-5 and Sun 12-5, during the month of December and join in the food fight.  It’s not as messy as it sounds.  The Tri-City Food Fight is a contest between the Archway in Kearney, The Stuhr Museum in Grand Island, and The Hastings Museum to see who can collect the most food for area food pantries during the month of December.  Just drop off your donation of non-perishable food in the Archway lobby and watch for regular updates on the local news throughout the month.  Last year, the Archway collected over 2,100 pounds of food.  The big winners were our local food pantries.
